Gee, there are only five billion people on the planet.  The Internet does make the world smaller, more accessible.  So, I think it is very cool, indeed!
 
Probably my favorite aspect of this club, besides the guitars and basses being discussed at all levels, is that people from all over the planet post on here.  I especially like the posts from members in Germany and Holland, as I spent about six years there, and I miss the people and places.  OK, I will stop yakking now.

Nigel, I agree. I'm frequently visiting other forums also, but the amount of respect, useful information, positive vibes and good laughs you find here, especially amongst the frequent visitors, is truly exceptional. Unlike any other forum I know of it's even possible to talk about highly controversial subjects every now and then without things running out of hand...

Another forum I enjoy, along with many of you, is The Bottom Line.  It's an e-list, and its a great source of information about basses and music.
 
One time, I posted to a thread there about why we starting playing bass.  I mentioned being influenced by the bass player in a band that played at a dance in my junior high school -- he was much louder than the guitar player, so I figured there was no point in playing guitar.  Anyway, I remembered the bass player's name and mentioned it.  Understand that the guy was someone I probably never spoke to, and hadn't seen since or heard from in 30 years.  Of course, I wind up getting an  e-mail from the guy, and I had the pleasure of knowing how touched and happy he was that he was able to influence me so profoundly, without even knowing it.

And now the bass that started this thread is back on eBay, and with a similar model for much less money.  I can't believe the first one went to $5500 and the guy didn't take the offer.  You could just about buy the thing new for that!

That's crazy that the guy didn't take it for $5500.  It doesn't even have a wood backplate.

I just sold my Mark King a few months ago on ebay.  The first time I put it up with a reserve, the bidders went up to $3,850.00...and my reserve was $3,900.00 (just $50.00 shy of what I wanted).  I made an offer to the highest bidder for his bid price, and I made an offer to the next highest bidder for his bid price, and neither responded.  So, it is possible that this guy would have taken their bid, but sometimes the bidders won't bite because they figure you'll relist the item at a lower price and they may come out with a better price the next time around.
 
You never really know how these things will work out, because the second time I listed my bass, I didn't put a reserve on it, and I got $4,100.00 for it, which was more than my reserve the first auction...go figure.
