I may have a scrap of brass plate in my shop that would be large enough for a battery compartment cover... I could use the one on #621 as a model and come up with a decent replacement. I'll check when I'm back in there this afternoon.

You did a nice job restoring that one Rob. It needed help.

You don't like the sparkle on the current plate?  :o

No sir Brian... that's gotta' go.

I hope to have a replacement battery compartment cover for 76-582 made later today... my scrap piece was just a shade too small so I'm make a hardware store run in a few minutes.

I couldn't (quickly) get a brass plate in the thickness I wanted so I have improvised... here's a maple/purpleheart/brass laminate battery compartment cover, chamfered and beveled. Mostly I just wanted to see if it could be done.

I fitted it with a little block of adhesive foam to hold the batteries firmly in place as well, and test-fit it onto 77-621, a close relative to 76-582 here.

Wow, that looks great!

Filled in for a rock band today, which is a departure from my normal jazz band.  It was a total blast, and I must say, rock bands play a lot louder than jazz bands 😎

I used this bass on this gig today and it was fantastic!  So, I'm putting it on hold.  I will reinstall the Fat Boys that Greg provided (thanks, Greg!), and I ordered an Anniversary harness with five pin that I'm waiting for and hope arrives soon.  Those added components will really make this a great bass 😊

Good call keeping this one Rob. 👍 I think Anniversary electronics with those FatBoys is as close to Series electronics as you can get without the headaches of dealing with 50 year-old glitchy electronics. As I was saying on another thread, those things sounded pretty darn good in my other Series bass before I sent it off for new pickups and upgrades.

Good plan Rob!

And Greg; nice work on the battery cover!
