Oliver:

Cool bass.  What's the neck made of?  I don't think I've ever seen anything that looks quite like that!

I'd just love to get my hands on one of those basses...

The neck is flamed maple, a three piece with Jens dirty black finish. The fretboard is probably ebony.  I have a 5 string Ritter with Macassar Ebony top and the same 3 piece neck with natural finish.  The build of Ritter basses is excellent, and they have their own sound.  It is an excellent piece to add to the Alembic collection

A 14-bolt neck! Does that take the record?
Reminiscences to Dr. Suess aside, there are so many things that are remarkable about Ritter's instruments.

Bill,
as Tubeperson said already: it is a highly flamed maple neck, finished with a dirty black finish. It looks really gorgeous...
The fretboard is ebony.....

To Benson Murrensun - Jens Ritter claims to have researched the number of bolts very carefully in making sure more of his house sound is transmitted by the bass.  The neck is exremely stable that's for sure.  The wood choices would influence that house sound as well.

With the weak dollar, a sale to someone on this side of the pond might prove expensive.  Still it is a fine piece from a terific member.

Tubeperson,

Interesting. Thanks. I just figured he used as many bolts as would fit in order to make it as solid as possible. I didn't realized he had another method of determining the number of neck bolts to be used. I have a Ritter, but it has only 7 bolts... You could see it here if you like: http://www.ritter-instruments.com/item_info.php?i=25

I've had a chance to play several, and they are fine instruments, indeed.  Strangely similar in ways to Alembic inasmuch as Jens does his own electronics and hardware, and CERTAINLY has a different design ethic.  I always giggle as they're either just wonderfully  and beautifully different or they really begin to look like a prop from 'The Cat in the Hat', just really fun, and very well made.  At least they're not one more wierd looking bass with Bartolinis and StewMac parts.

Jens has a startling outlook on finishes, an will be one of those guys that you'll begin to see variations on his finishes show up elsewhere I suspect.  I played a Roya five string that was a transparent finish about the color of faded denim . . . fingerboard, too.  Amazing.

Years from now, though, will the collectors argue over which number of bolts were the best ?!?

By definition, yes.

Jens has made a bass covered in 24k gold.  The price is $100,000.  For Benson, my 5 string Ritter fretted bass has nine bolts.  Go figure!

It is worth going to his website to see the variety of finishes he has used on completed basses.

Guys,
I have decided to accept partial trades on the above price as well.
I am interested in a 5-or 6-string bass. But plse only up to 50/50 of the value plus cash.
Many thanks for looking.
