Hi All:

I am selling my Alembic Epic V.  The main reason I'm selling it is that I'm not a very good 5 string player.  I have an Epic IV that I love and will never sell.

Here's the scoop on this bass:

1998 model SN 98W11562.  Mechanically excellent - no issues with the craftsmanship of assembly as is usual with Alembic gear.  The neck / frets are excellent and stable.  Mahogany body / birdseye cap / walnut laminate separator between cap & body.  Nine piece maple / walnut laminate neck with ebony board.  Standard Epic V features.

The cosmetics have a few wear marks on the body.  There is also a ding on the lower edge of the bout.  Nothing too terrible, but it is not a mint cond bass.

There are electronic issues that need to be dealt with.  This bass developed a buzz in the rear pickup a while back.  After much parts swapping from my Epic IV, I felt the problem was in the rear pickup.  I contacted Alembic and sent them the  pickup.  They confirmed that it was bad and sent a replacement.  The situation is better, but not solved.  There is still noise when the pan pot is moved to either extreme.  Maybe the bad pickup damaged a component?  Maybe my parts swapping damaged a component?  Simple fix or complex? I don't know.  The repair is beyond my skills and I don't want to totally ruin it by working it more.  If I played this bass all the time, I'd send the whole thing to Alembic and ask that they repair it to new performance ( which was dead quiet ).

At this point I would rather sell it as-is at a reasonable price and allow the buyer to approach a remedy he/she sees appropriate.

The bass is originally a BEADG and converts nicely to EADGC.

More pics available on request.

Asking $800 without case.

Congratulations on the sale and the purchase.

Danno- I assume this one is headed back to Alembic for an electronics overhaul and the standard black paint job?

dannobasso

Not yet but I do have a blue essense 5 w/leds going back Monday for the paint. I imagine it will get the electronic done at some point.

These things are like drugs, and many of you here know what those are like, but I don't get hungry afterwards.

tbrannon

Just can't get enough!

I'm quite a few behind you, but I'm hankerin' for #2 myself.  I see a set neck 5 in my future....

Because (Bob),  you went the extra mile with the packing job! bass in case, in cardboard and crated. Unbelievable job. Arrived safely and was in tune when I unpacked it.
Thanks.
