Sorta' makes me wish I had a J bass laying around somewhere Slawie. =)

Are these V/V/F or V/P/F by a small chance?

slawie

Sorry folks I forgot to say the controls are;

Volume/Volume/Filter

It would be some fun to drop them into a Squier or some hoho brand bass to freak out the gear snobs ;) until they looked closer and saw - Alembic.

Never heard Activator sets on a bass how do they sound? Is the filter similar to the filter we know on Alembic basses? I'm very curious.

StephenR

Based on other threads on these forums I believe that the filter that comes with the activators is the same as the ones on Alembic basses but sounds like the Q switch is on in 9db boost position. If you add a three-position Q switch to an Activator circuit it will then act the same as an Alembic bass with a filter and Q switch and give you more sonic choices including a position with no boost.

hieronymous

Right Stephen - I would elaborate that they don't come with a Q switch - it is hard-wired for +9 - and you can get a 2 position or 3 position switch added. I had a 3 position added to my AlFemBic and love it! I believe it is 0/+6/+9 - I tend to use it on 0 most of the time, only boosting higher frequency settings when I want that effect.

I have two Activated Fenders (the AlFemBic linked above, and the Telembic) - would love to grab these pickups but not in the market - I love Activators and would recommend them to anyone! They sound very much like the pickups they are based on, but with a much more expanded tonal palate available.

Enzo

Very interesting, thanks for chipping in. On a standard Jazz Bass do you need to route to accommodate the battery?

slawie

No routing required at all the battery fits into the cavity - snugly.
I have a genuine inquiry about the pickups and I am verifying their functionality as they have been out of my bass for some years.
Pretty much sold to a member here.

Enzo

Thanks Slawie, now I have another bug to satisfy hahaha.

slawie

The work fine and are now sold!

Sorry Enzo. One thing I have found is that people listening to a J bass expect a J bass sound.
These pickup freak people out a bit.
I have not seen too many around here for sale, especially this vintage.

I just looked at the current price. :0
