And we have, what, 477 or so posts on this thread?

I suspect I was right.

the_jester

This thread will not stop until Mica stops it, or better yet... after I get this bass home safely.

altgrendel

I hope that's the case.

I'm looking forward to the It's here photos. I just hope that you don't forget to post them in all the excitement.

Is it only the Series instruments that need to be calibrated by Ron exclusively?
What about the non series ones, do they all need calibrating and if so who does it?

Hi Mica, were the holes drilled?

The picture below was sent to your email.

Got the word by phone today to change to picture #1 from last Friday.

Hi Susan/Mica

If I wanted multiple LED colors, is that a major change?

I am thinking one more color... on the the two octaves on the 12th and 24th fret.

Mixing red, green and amber is not a problem. Mixing blue with anything else is a major deal. It's possible, but not with the size constraints on your particular bass.

In our email conversation, I wasn't sure if you were talking about the sterling silver rings around the LEDs. Here's what they look like when the LEDs are off:

Let me know if you were referring to something else.

toma_hawk01

Keep them all Blue Mica.

Thank you,

Does the picture clear everything up on the inlays around the LEDs?

toma_hawk01

It sure does. I like this very much.

Thanks again, I am good.

Hi Hal,

A buddy of mine had blue LED's on his custom Warwick.  He said they disappeared on outdoor stages/daytime festivals...  Just thought you would want to know.

Look at the Blue shimmering and twinkling waters on a tropical Island Oasis, against an orange Sun which is setting.

Look from the Astronaut's outer space hubbering windows, and grace the most spectacular and most important color to guide them back home.

I want to see blue when I look down, and when I hold my hear up to the sky.

One last thing... (and I mean no harm...)
The Toma_Hawk is an Alembic with Blue LED's.

Hi Mica,

Please take note of the string spacing measurements
between the spaces on the bridge.

0.52 inches at each space unit (1,2, and 3) is my desired string spacing for the Toma_Hawk.

Thank you,

The string spacing is determined by the fingerboard dimensions you specified. I checked the order and see the fingerboard is built with 1.6 x 2.15 (nut x 24th fret). This calculates to a bridge spacing of about .57 inches between the strings.

So, if you want the spacing tighter at this point, we'll need to cut the slots of the E and G string farther from the edge of the fingerboard. This space we call the edge allowance and it's measured from the edge of the string to the edge of the fingerboard. The default setting is .15 inches.

To get .52 at the bridge, the edge allowance would have to be increased to about .23 which is fine, many basses have that large of a space and some even larger, we just have to know you want it.

Your drawing indicates the space between the strings at the tailpiece, which will be slightly wider yet than the bridge.

So you'll have to tell me if you want to:

1. leave the string spacing at .57 with the default edge allowance of .15

2. change the string spacing to .52 with the edge allowance of .23

3. something else entirely.
