Elwood,

There you go, you sly devil you...

What you're saying is:

Susan and Mica will have their work cut out for themselves, once they start writing about this lolly-pop

But in the end, the Alembic Featured Custom page, on the Toma_Hawk, will be a very special read as all those beautiful jaw doping, mouth drooling things we love.

Thanks Elwood.

I finally got the design of this bass -- ie, it's intended to free up forearm space. I'd like to try it. I was thinking about this while playing my short scale custom -- I'd never thought about it, but I'm definitely resting my forearm on the body, in fact kind of pressing down. I'm not sure what it would feel like w/ no wood there to press down on...

Hugh, The Toma_Hawk concept was simple for me.

Some basses just looks cool strapped on, but frankly, I want form and function with good looks.

For me, the Toma_Hawk is exactly what I was looking for in a well designed bass which serves my purpose(s). I don't know of anything else comes closer for me, than the Toma_Hawk.

Playing bass with the standard fingering position mode, my arms rest on the top Wing of the Toma_Hawk. Resting my arms on the wing is no different than resting my arms on my Shorty, when playing.

However, when I convert my arm to the positions supporting popping, thumping, slapping, and strumming aka The attack mode -- my arms are not resting. In fact, my arms are no-longer resting on top of the Toma_Hawk's wing. My legs and muscles changes it position, and even my back is no-longer straight. The attack mode requires a major change of my entire body.

At this point, the magic is Toma_Hawk's curvature towards the pointed end. For, as my arm moves away from the wing, my arms glides to the attack mode with little or no resistance with extreme impact and stance for the attack mode of playing.

Yeah, that's The Toma_Hawk in the nutshell.

Only one in the world, just like me.

I'm like Simon in when I first saw your computer renderings(especially without necks) the body shape looked like some kind of parasite...now that it's in wood, it looks real nice, and I know you're gonna be happy and we all here are happy for you as well...the world is a better place with artisans around, and thankfully there are artisans to help artisans like yourself here...Group hug everyone! tony

Thanks for the kind words Tony. That was great man.

Right on!

The Toma_Hawk Cyclopes. What cool looking monster.

Hey Hal,

How about a Fretless Cyclops Toma_Hawk to compliment your custom?

toma_hawk01

I knew that was coming. I knew that question was coming. I have a quick answer to this question...

No.

The Toma_Hawk shape is of a different bread, a different horse all together. A fret-less Toma_hawk would contradict the shape. I can't see wanting this shape for just a fingering bass... (cause... that's all you get, with a fret-less bass anyway.)

Now, let me tell you what the Cyclops is all about...

The Cyclops is a short order, no-nonsense...

Like when I say to somebody: Wait right there, I'll be back -- let me get my stick.

The Cyclops are without the complexities of my Series I Toma_Hawk. The controls on the Toma_Hawk Cyclops, are in many ways, considered a just enough on a bass, and with a suitable rig, like with my new Mesa Boogie rig, would be more than sufficient.

Therefore, if I was to strap on the Toma_Hawk Cyclops, I am in the moment of the music... and Let me just plug in... with the comfort of the Toma_Hawk shape when freestyle Funk or fingering traditionally.

Best of all, the cost to make the Toma_Hawk Cyclops would be considerably less, than a Series bass. It's the shape I want, and need anyway.

Two very powerful human desires.

Never never never a fret-less Toma_Hawk. I'll put a curse on it.

A Brown Cyclops is beautiful too.

bluplirst

Well excuuuuuuseeee me!  The tailpiece makes it look like Cyclops is frowning.  Maybe the old moustache style would make him look more elegant.

Brown does look good btw.

toma_hawk01

LOL!!!

Yeah, I see what you mean. I also agree with you on the Brown.

My Rig is:

F-1X
F-2B
DS-5R
Mesa Boogie Basis M-2000
(Foot Switches)

More knobs and switches than anybody needs...
compared to simply Two knobs on the Cyclops

Well, it's Friday...

The Great Bill Cosby said in a interview many years ago...
Before dreams happen, you must first WAKE UP!

I think anyone who's out there who have a dream bass/guitar (or with anything...)should start with a dream, (wake up) then write it down. Don't let it get away. Hold on to the concept for dear-life and challenge your beliefs.

After that -- Take it to the streets and get support from others and add their suggestions (improving it...) Let one, or two years wear on your ideas. If the feelings are still strong or stronger, then you must (for the good of humanity, and your sanity)take it to the next level.

Most importantly, have faith in ideas as to stand before GOD as your witness, then launch a real project and make it happen the best you can.
