I think this is the second or third bass they've done in quite some time with the round truss rods cover...

OK - hot with the flames, so: close but no cigar. So did they keep the flame maple laminates in line, so the figuring is continuous across the neck?
 
Then why the #*@%! will this all get covered up in black?

Look at the picture and remember all woodwork has been done, look at any Elan in the Elan showcase (except my Stormburst, it's not so obvious on that one) and compare.
Second clue: It might be mentioned once somewhere in this FTC
 
The back of the neck will be left blank with a high gloss finish to show off those awesome (I presume (subtle pic request hint for Mica ;-)) flame Maple and Purpleheart lams ;-)

No elbow cut.
