So did you break out those strings sets?

Not yet Keith. The sounds were punchy enough to hold off a while. I mix for a church twice a year and brought my 83 spoiler along for the MD to play in rehearsal. The sound was impressive right away over his Marcus Miller 4. He likened the feel to his original Steinberger.

If you haven't decided yet, I'm afraid I'll have to look for a world class (we want nothing less, right?) Cheese Danish dealer in your area. :-)
 
I would stay with the brass hardware (in fact I do with my Elan)  
After 3-4 shows in our genre the sweat usually let the hardware look blackened anyway (just don't wipe it off after the show)
 
I must say the Blackened hardware does look neat, if it fitted in my budget I would have gone for it.

Mmmmmmm Danish. You will be gigging with yours first. I'm sticking with my prediction. With the way things are going here I'll have even less of my wages to send to Alembic. To stay on topic, ever since this and Flip's thread began I've wondered more than once how my 20th Anniversary would look all dressed up in semi-transparent, out-on-the-town black evening attire. Very tempting, but Dave Ramsey says I need to sell some stuff first.

Dave's advice is good. Alembics may not be in his program but a life enriching purchase none the less. At one time I was a see the wood finish purist. But going to the black appeals to me on practical (for the type of music I play) as well as esthetic levels. The lines and curves of these instruments are more pronounced to my eye when the finish is opaque. But I still have my wood babies to admire. You always see something new in the wood pattern. No Grail shaped beacons yet. Mean nasty awful Zoot!

And hence the always popular custom builds, voyeurism without the risk of misdemeanor charges. Zoot, Bane of the Chaste.

I had to reread the electronics specs for this bass. Is the middle pup gong to be routed through the bass and treble boost/cut switches along with the neck and bridge pups (ala the Europa config), or remain an independent signal?

The middle pup is independent of the other two. A separate volume and tone that I can use to add to the other or run by itself. It can be thought of as separate volumes on signature basses. The middle position will give me more options when I need to adjust the jangly character of the octave strings. The main circuit has a selector the middle just has vol.

I like this configuration. It makes sense to me from various angles of thought. I am intrigued by such innovation.
