There aren't too many tulipwood Alembics out there.   I wonder why - it sure is a beautful wood!

I love the grain on the headstock laminate.

Hi Steve,

I remeber an article in BAssplayer about Alain Caron (I THINK it was him really not sure) who had Wall made a bass for him in Tulipwood. As I recall the problem with tulipwood is that here is seldom wood available that is large enough to make a guitar from.
The same problem with Olivewood.

Paul the bad one

Wow, thanks for posting this - for some reason, this wood really speaks to me. Wouldn't trade it for what I have, but if I ever got around to considering another, this could work.

I also like the look of dulled brass, but not greenly tarnished, which you seem to have nailed here (intentionally or otherwise). And of course, I like your taste in strings.

(And what's this, Paul passed up a chance to make another conehead crack?)

Palembic,

I remember that Bass Player article you referenced about the tulipwood fretless Wal...the artist was Mick Karn of (I think) the band Japan.

Possible ...i remember he played fretless on a weird shaped glittering purple bass as his main ax.
The Wal was something as a spare.

Found this pic of Karn's fretless tulipwood Wal...it's almost (but not quite) as sweet as that 96 Essence.

Yep ...that's the dude! Thanks a lot!
Anyway ...I think tulipwood is rather rare for use in a guitar and -apart from the bass brand- it IS an AMAZING beautiful wood.
