Has Alembic ever been asked to use the Novax fret system...ala Sheldon Dingwall...on an Alembic bass? I have a friend interested in the fretting system and seriously interested in the product you offer. Is the fanned fret an Alembic option?

Alembic rules!!!

I have been asked a few times for this. As a one-off project, the price for a license from Novax has been prohibitve for the few that have inquired. In addition to the $500 (last time I checked) fee from Novax, you need to have an individual bridge and tailpiece for each string and other engineering considerations. You're talking probably $1000-1500 additional to be the first one to get it on an Alembic.

Would that significantly improve the intonation issues particularly discussed on short scale basses?

i've heard and played a dingwall with the fanned fret system and to my ears it really provides a vibrant and alive b string.  one of the best i've ever heard.

Hartmut: if you had a fanned fret bass, it would no longer BE a short-scale (at least not all of it - fanned-fret instruments usually use longer scale lengths on the lower strings!)
