I played my Alembicized Modulus Quantum for 30 years with no q-switch and when I finally put in a 3-position switch I wondered why I had never bothered earlier. I kind of liked the 8dB boost that was always on but the variety of possible tones with the Q-switch is a huge plus, hard to believe someone would not want that option. The other thing I did to my Modulus that was really helpful was add the variable bass and treble controls, there was just enough room in the existing cavity but I suspect it was tricky to get everything to fit. The crew up at Alembic did a great job!

Thanks everyone,

I'm going to install the 3-position Q when they are available again.  I'm also thinking of converting the vol/vol/filter to vol/pan/filter (it already has the low pass filter). I ordered the harness online and will see if it fits.

I like the case it came with too.  Hard case with nylon coating and fitted inside to the spoiler body.  I also like the shape of it, more manageable than the big G&G cases.  I think it's the original case that came with the bass, I've seen photos of other Spoiler/Persuader basses with the same case.

Q-switch will be a nice addition and the new harness should fit, too.

The 83 Distillate I used to own came in a trapezoidal case similar to yours, it was a nice case. I also thought the shape was preferable to a rectangular case. One of the guitars I own came in a custom Mark Leaf case that is also trapezoidal in shape, really nice case, water- and air-tight with a built in hygrometer.

I installed the pan pre amp today with vol/pan/filter and new 1/4" jack and it works great.  Mica, thanks for sending it out so quickly, much appreciated!

Here's a photo of the new pan preamp with vol/pan/filter installed

And I added ebony and gold wire knobs by David King

Here is what it sounds like, rough recording with an iPhone, so pretty low volume but you get an idea of the sound, played through a Barefaced Big Baby 2, trying for an acoustic bass sound.

Thanks, gearhead. :)

I checked out the tunes on your link, King Crimson came to mind (among others), pretty cool!

Hey, thank you! KC is a definite top 3 influence on the band. We actually have the same instrumentation as the Red-era band - singing bass player, guitar, violin, and drums. Except our guitarist uses a pedal for Mellotron parts.  ;D

I like the album, Starless and Bible Black. Maybe I should name this bass, Fretless and Bible Black  :)
