The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Saw Jack and Jorma along with Barry Mitterwald a few weeks ago in Minneapolis at a small venue called City Nights.  Incredible concert, Jack surely has not lost his touch with his playing as energetic as it was in the mid to late 60s.  Stunning performance with Jack's solo's a highlight. Alas, he no longer plays an Alembic.

Thanks for the great links Mario. Really cool to read about that instrument and Alembic's early days. I'm fascinated with that early, exploratory era.

I've never seen any other picture of Jack with #1, does anybody have a better or perhaps a more detailed picture of this bass?? Looks very interesting.

I repeat go listen to After Bathing At Baxters. Jack and Jorma do a great solo piece called Spare Chaynge. It's a great rambling jam of musical ideas. . .it must have been SO cool to be in San Francisco when The Airplane were on the rise. .

I gotta say Alembic #1 looks heavier than hell. . .Jacks shoulder must have been killin' him when he got off stage after playing that baby. .

Here's a poor quality pic of the front:

And the carving on the back of the body:

The electronics are not the same as what is shown in the first pic in this thread, although the sliding pickups are in place.

Man I LOVE that bass! Especially dig the carving on the back. Sparechaynge I can tell you like the track from your Handle! Very cool. ..you're a man with taste! Here is my '74 Alembic small Standard Serial # 74-52. .

pasewark

I had a similar Series 1 short scale bass. I think it was 74-49. Top and back in birds eye maple. I just got my new Alembic bass the other day. Custom short scale brown bass. I love it!

Pasewark:

That is one beautiful bass, Man. . .

Bucky, I saw your bass just before the electronics were put in when I was down at Alembic in early January. I love the inlaid logo with the dark cloud. LOVE that body shape!

hammer

Absolutely beautiful bass. I hope more pics are forthcoming soon in the showcase section

Hammer; were you talking about my Alembic or pasewarks Alembic? I do have a few photos. Some of them are already posted here at the Club. Let me know I'll post more. .
