Dave stopped by to visit his new bass yesterday, Jack was ready to carve the neck.

Here's most of the details:
Custom Essence 4-string
Walnut top
Jamaican Mahogany body*
Maple, Purpleheart, Ebony neck
Ebony fingerboard
Essence electronics with Q switch, effects loop, and effects loop blend control

The intention is to have a fairly simple bass for his band Hard Working Americans. Really excited to hear what he's going to do with the effect loop blend.

Now for the *. The Jamaican Mahogany for the body is from wood from a tree that fell at Johnny Cash's Cinnamon Hill home in Jamaica and it's been stored in Tennessee for decades. Talk about mojo!

Mica, this is so awesome! I've been a Widespread Panic fan since 1990 when I saw them opening for Phish in Providence, RI. He was also influential to me because he played with fingers, pick, and slapping, depending on what worked. It was great to see his Alembicized Starfire - this Exploiter is even better!

He's going to have so much fun with this!

Anybody but me wondering how the ham-sammich they got a mahogany tree from Jamaica to Tennessee? 

Sorry, I'm having a really weird day. Indeed, a cool mojo-filled story, and a very nice bass in progress. Each time I see a picture from the shop I think- California isn't that far away... maybe I should make a pilgrimage out there one day.

Saw the Hard Working Americans show last night - AMAZING! The band is really really tight, and of course Dave constructed a great foundation  with his new bass. The Fillmore is a hard room to soundcheck in, and so the band sounded netter and better as the night went on and they all dialed in together.  If you can see them on this tour I can HIGHLY recommended.
