Who is that guy - not the usual AKUS bassist I think.

I didn't watch it all, but it sure looks like Jimmy Johnson to me.

If you're unfamiliar with him there is a thread here in the Showcase section.

hankster

That looks to be him indeed.

I love this place!

That is indeed Jimmy Johnson; in fact that's James Taylor's band backing up Jerry Douglas and Alison Krauss.  This is from the James Taylor special that appeared on PBS.

Being a North Carolina native, a former long-time resident of Chapel Hill, and an old hippy, this is one of my all time favorite tunes.  I also adore Alison Krauss' voice; and this is a beautiful version of this special song.

Today I finally got around to hooking the laptop up to the stereo.  So, I've cranked it up with this song; and Jimmy's low bass notes are shaking the house!

Thanks for posting this video link!  Wonderful tune!

hankster

Glad to provide, Dave.  I love that little Indiana voice, and the tune has always been a favourite of mine.  I remember gathering around the television to watch James sing it.

WOW! What a beautiful song and what an incredible female vocal. Simply wonderful, thanks so much for that

olieoliver

I agree Dave this is and awesome version of that tune. And the low end was shaking the pictures on my wall as well.

Thanks Rick,
Olie

Not to be picky, Rick, but that would be a little Illinois voice (she's from Decatur, IL) - and I love it too.

Peter, you are so right.  I had relied on a friend of mine who is a linguistics major to identify her accent years ago, and never bothered to see whether he was correct.  Thanks for the correction!

Alison Krauss and Jimmy Johnson (and JTs band) Its heaven in digital video. All artists I love and admire. there is quite a few examples on youtube of Jimmy playing with James Taylor if you're interested just type title of JT songs into the search engine, some awesome playing. One of my favourites is this:

listen right to the end its worth it for the phrase that Jimmy plays and the guitarist repeats just before the fade.
