Hi, I have a pair of 1980's Series 1 pickups that were swapped out for the electronics upgrade. The hum canceller unfortunately was destoryed during it's removal so now I only have the 2 pickups. I was thinking if it's possible to build another bass using these pickups but with a different set of electronics whether they be Alembic or not. Anyone tried this before?

Thanks!

Jack, there was a Club Member here, (Keith Rosier I think) who was specifically looking for some of those for his Series I. You might try posting them in the Swap Shop if no project is forthcoming.

Like most things, you could definitely get it to work but I would imagine without the hum canceller it may be hard to avoid picking up the kind of interference that single coil pickups are known for.

Thinking about it, I wonder if you fitted them to a bass but reversed one of them like you can do in the in-between positions on a strat if that would give some level of humcancelling?, but then again if it were that simple, Ron would have done that instead of going through the effort of the hum cancelling system.
if you have a spare bass or a cheap one to try some experimenting it might prove fruitful.
