What an incredible piece of wood!
I find myself ruminating on the conditions that caused those grain patterns to appear and grow. Miracles in Nature continue to appear....

Frequently with Buckeye Burl, we find these amazing designs, then there's a huge bark pocket, which is not suitable for a top. It always happens on the more highly figured pieces. In cases like this, my uncle does an inlay in the top, like the serpents on this bass. He's so artistic.  
 
My mom is currently trying to find the perfect piece of Buckeye for a Darling guitar that she's been longing to get.
