Will you be at Anaheim for the NAMM 06

We won't be at the winter NAMM show, but are considering going to Austin in the summer.

Hmmm ... my house to Austin is 1,150 miles.  Estimated drive time one way is 18 hours and 15 minutes.  Estimated fuel cost round trip is $288.  Add wear and tear of 2,300 miles on vehicle.  Two days drive time there and two days back.  Hmmm ...

When is the Austin NAMM?  We'll be headed that way for the NORML/Willie Nelson benefit golf tournament next summer.  (I'm coming more from the NORML side than the golf side - I stink).  It would be great to check out NAMM while we're out there.

Michael, I'm thinking the same thing.

Austin's HOT in July, fortunately there are plenty of taverns and specialty beers to be found. We've family down that way, not inconceivable that a family vacation isn't in order.

You'll need a pass to get in.  Sweet talk your music store of choice, because I think they all get 10 or so for the same cost.  One of my bandmates is driving down for it (owns a music store) and a brother of mine lives in Round Rock, but I don't think I will be able to cough up the vacation time from work...

Not trying to tell anyone their business, but . . . GO to AUSTIN ! ! !  Tons of every kind of live music imagineable, great TexMex and BBQ, and you'll be deep in the heart of my home state, Texas.  You can visit Guitar Resurrection, the ALEMBIC dealer in Austin. It REALLY is a 'whole 'nother country', to lift a line from the Tx. Department of Tourism commercials.  And you get the NAMM show and all the side events to boot.  THIS is a no-brainer.  I can NOT believe Nashville let it get away, but Austin is the REAL Music City USA.
 
I'd fly in, though.  Driving across West Texas . . well, it's like the dark side of the Moon with billboards!  If you come from the East, just about the time you're sick of driving, THEN you get to Texas line and ya still got a ways to go.  Bob Wills didn't record 'Miles and Miles of Texas' for nothing!
 
You can thank me later.  Get some Asleep at the Wheel, some Lyle Lovett, and some George Strait, some Vaughn brothers and Joe Ely to study up for this.

We drove from the SF Bay Area to San Antonio in 2 days to see my son's Air Force Boot Camp graduation...you're not lying!!! Hwy 10 doesn't even have that many billboards through there...

And for Pete's sake eat the local food!  West Texas has the best food on the face of the Earth, especially in the funkiest looking dives you can find.  Really.

Yes, but steer well clear of The Big Tex in Amarillo in North Texas, up in the Panhandle.  THIS is the place (it truly exists) you've always heard about, where IF you can eat the SIX pound steak, it's free.  If you MUST attempt this and you've checked YES on your organ donor card . . . well, let's just say they'll be able to use SOME part of you . .
