Hi guys, I wonder if someone out there can help me with this.

I recently saw an MK standard for sale and the seller mentioned that the body was 'huge'.

I've not actually seen one of these in person and wondered just how big the body dimensions are?

Not looking for exact figures, just something to compare with one of my existing basses to get an idea of relative sizing

Hi Barrie,
Rough measurements of my MK:
Upper Bout - 10 3/4  (27.3 cm)
Lower Bout - 15 5/8  (39.7 cm)
Waist - 9 5/8  (24.4 cm)
Thickness - 1 7/16  (3.7 cm)
Best, Art

Thanks Art.

I've put in an offer which I think has been accepted - I may be back in the Alembic game once again

Welcome back, all is forgiven. :-)

If it is being called huge, perhaps it is the original Balance shape - predecessor to the Balance K shape, and significantly larger.

Kristoof's 5er has the original Balance body.

It looks like this one - does that help?

An MK Standard with what appears to be the standard point body shape, looks to be LED's on the fretboard markers.  The dimensions I gave should be pretty close as mine is the same body shape. Cheers

Looks like the deal is done

Here's a nice close up of the body

Maybe a pic with someone playing it may give  you and idea of scale.

I thought they were they same dimensions as Series basses, mine has been nicknamed 'the coffee table'.
It is heavy as it is a solid body and I once tried a full scale length and had difficulty reaching the 1st fret(mine is medium scale)

@ joweejojo - the bass is over here in the UK, don't know if that helps identify it?

Has LEDS as well, which I didn't know when I agreed the price so that's a bit of a bonus

It also has a hairline crack in the neck which I'll get professionally looked at. I don't think it's anything really nasty though.

Won't be getting it for a couple of weeks as it clashes with holiday season over here!

@ Molan,

Yes, that is indeed my old MK. The hairline crack was repaired by Mike Lull...so it should be good. It never got any bigger and I live in a extreme climate changing place. I bought it with that crack from Bass Northwest. UK? It certainly went some distance.

molan

Thanks Joweejo - good to hear it was worked on by a real pro

Not sure how it got over to the UK - I'll ask the current owner.

Here's a pic of the crack - is this how you remember it?
