Thought this was an interesting alliance, Jimmy J. with Terry Bozzio. Mostly drum stuff which is pretty bizarre, but a few good shots of Jimmy and his 5 string Alembic.

It's a blast playing with Terry and Alex in their Out Band, a couple unique musical voices there.  I hope to do it again sometime.  (The music is not all drum solos...)

It seems I was in a slightly different musical orbit back in the day and never really got to know the Dead.  But I recognize that gang as innovators on many levels including high-end audio, live sound and (duh) Alembic instruments.  Some very creative folks involved with that group including our own Ron W.
 
The band linked above has many sections of free improvisation in their songs and the posted video begins after we had played the first head (jazz lingo for the first melody).  From what I understand about the Dead, they too would go on long musical adventures.  If you do this often as a band you are bound to reach some interesting and unexpected places.  Sometimes it takes a while to get there, and some nights are more productive than others, but that's what makes it fun to follow the band.

Nice stuff, Jimmy!  And if you want to explore the Dead a bit, deadlists.com has huge numbers of their shows available for streaming and/or downloading; pick a year, pick a date, and take off!  YouTube has some whole shows as well.

Thanks for asking but no, I have no web presence beyond the Alembic Club and rare posts in a couple other forums.  Keeping a low profile (or maybe NO profile) works for me.

I know there's this guy named Jimmy J who wants to keep a low profile. I respect that, but I can't contain my feelings.  
 
If I could play like anyone, it's you, Jimmy. Your soul soars through you like lightning and out come these absolutely beautiful melodies that literally bring tears to my eyes. Not to mention you have the best tone, ever. I live near the Mothership and have had the honor of going there a few times. Mica and I both agree that you seem to always play just the right notes.  
 
If you ever give lessons, I'd save up for them. Thanks for making my days brighter when I listen to Flim and Holdsworth. I can't stop listening to Tricycle and At The Hop.

It's always nice to hear from people who enjoy something you've played or some music you've been a part of.  As it turns out, any style of music has the ability to reach somebody.  Every band I've ever played with has followers.  I'm often surprised when somebody will single out an album I worked on many years ago, maybe only once with that Artist, as their favorite thing ever.  That's the fun of it.  That's the power of music!  
 
I don't teach because I don't know what I'm doing.  Ha!  Just follow your ears, play as much as you can, and make yourself and others happy.  What could be better?
