I am wanting to add a mute switch to my Europa 6. Can I add it to the current electronics? I've seen that Alembic has installed before so hopefully it can be done easily.

I had one on my europa before i had it's signature electronics upgraded to anniversary electronics. In actual fact i hardly ever used it.

Good, I will order one then, and install. That is a beautiful bass!

I find the mute switch very useful in the Theater work I do. Cutting signal while page turning or just adjusting your body where I may make some vibration with the instrument is something I really like.

Couldn't you just run the output cord from the bass to an on/off bypass foot switch before your amp? No drilling or instrument modification involved.

My Polytune 2 does this... mutes the signal chain. I used to tune between long runs of songs, back in the good ol' days when I was playing out. Not sure if this is helpful to what your goal is, but I found it very handy.

The reason I prefer a mute switch on the instrument is back when, 20 years or so, the amps I was using didn't have the option of muting. So I started installing mute switches in the basses I used for theater work. It's a habit thing now. The amp I'm using, TC Electronic BG250 has a mute switch on the front panel. So a foot switch would work just as well but I am use to and prefer the switch on the instrument. Also, I have no problems modifying the bass. I believe I can do a tasteful job.

I believe both D'addario and Planet Waves make cables with kill switches built into in the body of the plug.

Wondering how your bonding with the Europa you purchased from me a while back (other than it not having a mute switch).

I guess you could use your pedal tuner as a mute switch if you already have one.
The mute switch on my Europa did not stop the battery draining.
The reason I stopped using was on the occasion where there was a long pause of about 5 mins where the singer was engaging the audience and i switched the mute on.
Then forgot to turn it back on when the drummer rolled in the next song. So whilst it was a few seconds of silent bass playing before i turned the mute off, it seemed ages as instinctively when you have no sound, you check the normal things not the mute switch. On my series basses I never turn the selector switch to mute unless it's the end of the set or after soundcheck.
