Now that really is nice. I'd like to see a close up of the twelfth fret inlay.  3 ebony neck laminates are going to shake the earth - My 'k' with a single ebony stringer sustains for ever and has a fantastic bottom end so the extra 2 lams are going to sound incredible.

I concur, on seeing a close up of the 12th fret.
A definate show piece.

Here's a picture of Doc Greene Sr. playing John's bass at the Texas Gathering last summer.

Thanks for the great pix!  Quick question, though - what's that little black thing clipped just below the B-string tuning peg?
I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

flpete1uw

It looks like a clip on Tuner. Planet Waves?

Hello All -

Thanks for all of the kind words.  Susan and Mica and Ron and the crew truly delivered a life-long dream with this one.

I visited the factory during the build, and have some great in process pictures I'll try to post this weekend.

For those of you interested, the tuner is a D'Addario NS Micro Clip-On Tuner.  I believe Ned Steinburger had something to do with the design (or marketing), hence the NS.  They work very well for the most part, particularly if you find a resonant spot on the headstock.  What I like is you simply turn down and tune up with no one the wiser.  And there's nothing in the signal path.

Best part:  you can find a 2 pack for about $25 online.  I've now got them on all my basses and guitars.

Here are a few photos of the 12th fret inlay in various stages of creation . . .

Layout after the three colors of mother of pearl were cut for the 12th fret . . .

The 12th fret after carving - amazing when you consider how small all of this is in real life!

One of the other fret markers, checking the width against the fret wire.  To maintain the proportions, all of the markers above the 12th fret extend beyond the frets.

The finished 12th fret inlay with no strings and the adjacent 2 fret markers . . .

And the upper half of the fret board in setup, freshly oiled, no strings . . .

Thanks for the pics John! I love the shots of the cut out inlays before they are set & the routed cavity for them! That really shows the amazing accuracy & intricacy of the inlay artist!
