Received my copy of Bass Culture: The John Entwistle Guitar Collection from amazon.com on Saturday. BEAUTIFUL book, and there's a nice section on Alembics. Some absolutely stunning photographs of both basses and guitars. Even the Teisco Del Ray and National guitars look good. Highly recommended.

It's a wonderful combination of gorgeous photography of absolutely beautiful guitars, mixed with Entwistle's wry, dry, acerbic sense of humor. His collection was stunning. I have the Sotheby's catalog, but this book really does it one better. I'd never seen an Alembic with a Precision Bass body. Make sure to either wear a bib or have a napkin nearby, because you'll be drooling.

on Johns collection.
WOW, this book is really great  
and worth every dime.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Curious that Amazon Germany is still listing it as not published yet while others (Amazon.com) is speaking about an immediate delivery. I got mine after hard search from a bookshop in Ireland.  
As said it is really worth the money and a phantastic coffeetable book.  
BTW you also can see one of my basses in it  
(previously owned by John).....  :-)

I've been enthralled by John's massive collection ever since I saw The Kids Are Alright back when it first came out. Those scenes from the Success Story video vignette with all his collection on (staged) display allways blew me away. Having owned the original movie on Laserdisc, I was amazed at how good the new DVD restoration is. You can clearly see all the guitars! I've been a Who fan since my very early teens.

Oliver that's pretty cool that you own a bass pictured in this book.  What page is it on and are you credited as the current owner?  That's got to be exciting for you.

no I am not mentioned (of course) as the original research and photographing for the book was done in the mid ninetees.
It is the blonde Ovation Elite acoustic bass on page 236; the small picture beside the bigger black one. This was sold last year at the Sotheby?s auction and the buyer had to sell it now due to financial problems.It is untouched since then and has Johns original Maxima Gold strings on it as well all tags and the complete paperwork from Sothebys.
OK, no Alembic Spyder, but a first step.... :-)

Rick Neilsen of Cheap Trick (local Illinois boys)is a HUGE vintage guitar collector. I don't know how good of a photographer he is, but, nonetheless...

I just got my book today...you were absolutely on the money (stimpt gennau, LOL!)...the book is awesome. It's a shame they had to break that collection up. While reading the captions, it felt as if JAE is still with us...it's very very sad that he is not. BTW, that Ovation bass of yours (er, John's, LOL!) is very nice.
