How long has she had it?  I well remember the Body Shop line of hemp products.  It was delightful to see the large cannabis leaf in the front window of Body Shops in airports all over the country.  I used the shampoo and conditioner until they discontinued the products.  As I recall they had a problem with some of the products going bad after a period of time.  The might explain the bad smell.
